
探索臺灣咖啡之旅:與世界烘豆冠軍團隊尋味咖啡——奧地利烘豆師們對台產咖啡的熱情與好奇

今年七月我們有幸接待COE國際咖啡評審James到台灣產區尋豆,這次我們更加緊張,因為我們承接了一項更有挑戰性的任務——帶領冠軍們用兩天一夜的時間認識台灣咖啡與他的生產者們。
In July this year, we were honored to host James, an international coffee judge from the Cup of Excellence (COE), for a bean-hunting expedition in Taiwan. This time, our excitement reached new heights as we undertook a more challenging mission — guiding the 2022 World Coffee Roasting Champions to explore Taiwan's coffee world within a tight schedule of two days and one night.
因為wcc 世界烘豆賽舉辦在台北的關係,來自奧地利的2022世界烘豆冠軍團隊抵達台灣,參與本次的烘豆盛會。在經歷四天三夜的比賽後,這些咖啡大師們特別停留台灣認識這個神秘的新興產區。我們非常榮幸接待了奧地利的冠軍團隊,他們分別是:

Due to the hosting of the World Coffee Roasting Championship (WCC) in Taipei, the 2022 Austrian championship team landed in Taiwan, extending their stay beyond the competition to acquaint themselves with the mysteries of this emerging coffee region. We were privileged to host the Austrian champions:

在咖啡展的第一天晚上,邀請大家來到台北知名茶坊 古芸香邸體驗台灣高山茶的美好
主理人fifi 習茶多年,是台茶領域的專家,她慷慨地為我們準備在地精緻茶點,也為我們的冠軍們 帶來了三款不同發酵程度的茶品
來自台灣南北與東部茶產區的作品,大家聊著風味聊著處理法,咖啡總是與茶在許多地方相會
On the first night of the coffee show , we invited everyone to a renowned tea house in Taipei, "古芸香邸gurjumspa
," to experience the beauty of Taiwanese high-altitude tea. Fifi, a seasoned tea enthusiast and Taiwan's tea expert, generously prepared local delicacies and presented three teas of varying fermentation levels. As we conversed about flavors and processing methods, it was evident that coffee and tea share common ground in many aspects.
臺灣咖啡產區風味地圖首次亮相
2023年,尋味雲林風味地圖是我們眾多重要計畫之一,整整一年的時間深入踏查古坑咖啡的所有面向
將古坑產區按照風土特色,創建了台灣第一份的咖啡風味地圖,依據不同海拔與氣候條件
定義了古坑咖啡在不同微氣候產區的特色風味
這份具有前瞻與創建性的地圖即將在年底出版,我們也利用這份完整的資料
節錄出了一些精華報告介紹給我們的烘豆師朋友們,讓他們可以使用這份地圖更加快速的了解台灣咖啡產地與風味的現況
In 2023, the "Yunlin coffee Flavor Map" became one of our most significant projects, involving a year-long in-depth exploration of every aspect of coffee in the GuKeng region.
We created the first-ever Taiwan Coffee Origin Flavor Map, defining the unique flavors of GuKeng coffee in different microclimates based on varying altitudes and climate conditions. This groundbreaking map is set to be published at the end of the year, offering a comprehensive overview of Taiwan's coffee origin and flavor profiles.

透過這次的交流,我們期待將全球的烘豆技術與臺灣咖啡文化完美結合,創造出更加精彩的咖啡體驗。
Our first destination with the champions was the birthplace of Taiwanese coffee — GuKeng. We introduced them to the CPAG team and together tasted the freshly harvested GuKeng coffee for the 2023-2024 season. The distinct impression of Taiwanese coffee exhibiting delightful oolong tea-like flavors left a lasting impact on everyone.
Through this exchange, we hope to seamlessly merge global roasting techniques with Taiwan's coffee culture, creating an even more spectacular coffee experience.

古坑華南社區與華南國小作為古坑原鄉產區的團隊,深耕咖啡教育與社區營造超過十年,得獎無數
也在產區發揮深刻的影響力
我們向冠軍們展示了全球第一套咖啡生產者桌遊「what coffee?桌遊」
大家對於這套桌遊展示強烈的興趣,希望能買英文版,更希望我們可以推出西班牙文版,可以推廣到中南美洲
所有的產區都面臨相似的問題:年輕一代不再從事咖啡生產
所以大家對於華南國小在教育面向做出的努力非常的感動,這也是這趟尋豆之旅中最為觸人心弦的時刻
這次旅程中,我們特別關注了古坑華南社區的咖啡產業教育計畫。我們期待透過這樣的計畫,將世界烘豆冠軍的經驗分享給當地的年輕一代,為臺灣的咖啡產業培育更多的未來之星。
The huanan Community in GuKeng, along with huanan Elementary School, is a team deeply committed to coffee education and community building for over a decade, earning numerous accolades and exerting profound influence in the coffee-producing region.
We showcased the world's first coffee producer board game, "What Coffee? Board Game," developed by huanan Elementary School, receiving strong interest from the champions. They expressed a desire for an English version and even suggested a Spanish edition to promote the game in Central and South America. The universal challenge faced by all coffee-producing regions is the diminishing involvement of the younger generation in coffee production. Therefore, the champions were deeply moved by the efforts of huanan Elementary School in education, making it the most touching moment of this bean-hunting journey.

Thanks to Director Yuan's gracious arrangements, we visited the restaurant of the widely distributed Jiayi coffee producer, Old K. There, we indulged in authentic Taiwanese dishes such as lamb hot pot and ginger duck while simultaneously tasting top-notch coffee beans from over ten coffee estates in Jiayi. Special thanks to 一品咖啡莊園 and 珍5吉 for providing on-site pour-over services.

Exploring Alishan — Visiting Champion Producers
On the last evening before leaving Taiwan, we visited the world tea champion's Yun Yi Tea Estate, discovering the universal language that transcends championships — the love for tea and coffee. The champions tasted champion-grade white tea, experiencing the charm of Taiwan's coffee and tea culture.
The next day, we visited the iconic COE estate,香香久溢, delving into the world of coffee varieties and flavor variations guided by the estate's owner, 酒意.
Thank you to everyone who assisted on this bean-hunting journey. We showcased Taiwan's coffee promotion efforts splendidly, leaving the Austrian coffee friends with beautiful memories and impressions of Taiwanese coffee. Looking forward to a closer connection in the future.
